Northland RT Day#1 - Organ Cave and Rock Forest

Only Rob showed up and we walked a couple blocks to find this “Scotties Rental Cars” that I had rented through using the site economycarrentals.com and ECONOMY is what we got! A 10 year old Mazda with 350,000km’s on it!!! I put up a little bit off a fuss but I wanted the cheapest rental car and I got it! The guy went on to tell us New Zealand was a “Third World Country”!!! and some other jargon. The only thing “Third World” was us in that car! haha, no, it was alright, just a little rusty and missing 2 hubcaps!!! He tried to sell me extra insurance of course!, but I would have none of that! We got on our way and out of the city into the real New Zealand! and our first stop was this AMAZING “Organ Cave”, thanks to Robs “Lonely Planet” book he had we would have never gone there. The landscape was straight out of “Lord of the Rings” as we went down into the gully and “Rock Forest” to this cave. The entry was a little hairy, but once we were in with our headlamps on our heads nothing could stop us! We walked in about 20 meters and the glow worms were everywhere! We hit some deeper water and didn’t think twice, were were down to our underwear and going in farther! The glow worms were absolutely spectacular and I figure we went about 60 meters in total into that cave! After the cave we continued north in search of a place to free camp for the night and we scored with a great view on top of a hill.
