Whitsunday Sailing

We set sail on the boat “Hibibi, good food, good fun, and plenty of it” was the slogan on the side of the boat! There were about 24 of us on the boat plus 5 crew with a good mix of Europeans as I was the only North American on board! The captain went full speed into the night to get us to “Whitehaven Beach” so we could just go right over in the morning.

Airlie Beach - Stanley Cup Final - Booooooo

Not to much to say about this except, booooooo we had a pretty big canadian crowd there for the game but not to much of an after party after the game! We still had some good fun and later that night we all said our goodbye’s as this was the final breaking of our Fraser Island crew!

Airlie Beach - State of Origin Game #2

Had a pretty a pretty chill day and watched the 2nd State of Origin game with 2 Irish girls and we all cheered on the NSW team and they ended up winning so we were not so popular with the local crowd but that didn’t stop us from rubbing it in because apparently NSW never wins!!! It was a great night!

Airlie Beach - Change of Plans!!!

I met up with some fellow Canadians and watched Vancouver blow it in game 6 so I changed my Whitsunday sailing adventure for Friday and will watch the game on Thursday! I also found out when I changed my ticket the State of Origin is tomorrow night so that will also be a good night to be in Queensland on the mainland!!!

Airlie Beach

I went to get my boat ticket sorted and some other things and ended up getting 3 free nights accommodation in a “deluxe” cabin at Magnums backpackers, the place I booked my trip so the was a nice surprise! I spent some time in Maccas and then went for a long overdue jog and watched a great sunset. I ran into some of the fellow Canucks I did Fraser with so I went for a drink with them this evening.

Airlie Beach

The bus arrived at 7am and I was lucky enough to get right into my room, so I got a couple hours sleep to make up for the AWESOME sleep I got on the bus! Airlie Beach is a very nice little city and the main hub for the Whitsundays with some 120 boats operating out of there. The cheap supermarket Coles 3/4 hour walk from the city center along the coast so I went there for some food for a few days in the afternoon. Met a few nice backpackers at the hostel and just chilled out for the night.

1770 to Airlie Beach

I was to do my second castaway today but the weather was not co-operating with us and they had to cancel the trip. So I was able to go up the street and watch game five of the Stanley Cup final. Out of about 50 people in the tavern I was really the only person interested in the game!!! I couldn’t believe it, they would rather watch and bet on horse races and play Keno! After the game I walked to the travel place to enquire about my Whitsunday trip and they said everything was filling up because of the weather so I booked my trip for the15th, so I sure hope the Canucks win the cup in six games. Back at the hostel I just waited around chatting until my bus that night to Airlie Beach. My first overnight bus trip so I saved a nights accommodation, sweet!
